Subject: Services for Jody Mayer
Hello Everyone!!
I wanted to share the sad news on the passing of Jody
Mayer wife of executive committee member and chair
Larry Mayer.
She passed away on October 20th. Jody had a
remarkable life and career. She was born in Berlin
Germany, and spend her childhood in Paris France. Her
father as in the US Foreign Service. In 1977 she
worked in Rosslyn at a drug abuse center. From 1979
to 1982 she was a senior secretary with Planning
Research Corporation in McLean, and then an executive
secretary with MCI from 1982 to 1987. In the late
eighties Jody changed careers to the health care field
and from 1990 to 1995 she was a nurse in the oncology
and surgical units at VA Hospital Center Arlington,
switching to a home care nurse in 1995 and 1996 before
becoming an AIDS specialist with the Whitman Walker
Clinic from 1996 to 1999. In addition to all of this
Jody volunteered with the Epilepsy Foundation, and
worked as a lobbyist for the passage of the Americans
with Disabilities Act of 1990. She attended the
signing of the bill at the White House.
Her life is tribute to who she was - a very caring and
loving person.
Many of us on the executive committee last saw Jody at
the August 2nd National Night Out dinner we had with
her and Larry at the Boulevard Woodgrill in Clarendon,
where she enjoyed herself and was full of life.
Please join with me and others for the services that
will be held on saturday october 29th 3pm at the St
Pauls Episcopal Church 3439 Payne Street, Baileys
Crossroads Falls Church VA.
Regards,
Patrick A. Smaldore Jr.
