Civic Hero Award
September 4, 2001
The Honorable Charlotte Cleary,
General Registrar of Voters
The Arlington County Civic Federation takes pleasure in extending greetings and sincerest appreciation to Ms. Charlotte Cleary, an individual who has made a difference in Arlington. Furthermore, the Civic Federation is pleased to declare Ms. Cleary an "Arlington Civic Hero" in recognition of her many contributions to our community.
Ms. Cleary, since your appointment in March of 1985 as the General Registrar of Voters, you have ably administered the Office of the Registrar, leading advances in voter education, community outreach, registration drives and enlisting the support of the County Manager, the County Board, the Civic Federation and the public in general. Under your leadership, Arlington has upgraded all of its voting machines, established satellite voter registration locations and supported the "Motor Voter" effort. We know that this year, you face some special challenges associated with the realignment of Congressional, State Senate and House of Delegates districts along with realignment of voter precincts. All the while, you worked to procure more voting machines to accommodate Arlingtonians with disabilities and successfully recruited legions of part-time voting officials and unpaid volunteers, ensuring that your office makes the most efficient use of Arlington's tax dollars.
Most importantly, Ms. Cleary, it is most noteworthy to observe that officials of both of the county's major political parties as well as this Civic Federation hold you in the highest regard out of respect for your impeccable integrity and unquestionable impartiality. Your service and commitment to our community is deeply appreciated and worthy of this recognition as an Arlington County Civic Federation "Civic Hero."
On Behalf Of A Grateful Civic Federation,
Jim Pebley, President.
