Civic Hero Award

Arlington County Firefighters and Paramedics
For heroism and unselfish acts of courage above and beyond the call of duty, the Arlington County Civic Federation would bestow the highest level of recognition to the men and women of the Arlington County Fire Department.
On September eleventh, in the year two thousand and one, the Pentagon building, located within Arlington County, was violently and unexpectedly attacked by terrorists in a hijacked airliner. In a heinous act of violence, the terrorists drove the aircraft into the western wall of a building that serves as a national landmark and a symbol of American strength. Responding within minutes with every available fire and emergency medical unit in Arlington County, Fire Department personnel established command of the disaster scene, deployed fire fighting units, facilitated the evacuation of the building's twenty thousand or more personnel, treated a hundred or more wounded and transported them to medical facili-ties throughout the Washington metropolitan area. Throughout it all, Arlington's Firefight-ers and Paramedics demonstrated innumerable acts of selfless courage, risking their own lives to rescue American service men and women, as well as the civilian employees who were working in the Pentagon when attacked.
Whereas, the men and women of the Pentagon, whom Arlington's Firefighters unselfishly and bravely sought to rescue, include citizens of Arlington, their neighbors, friends and dearest relatives, be it therefore;
Resolved that the men and women of Arlington County's Fire Department are recognized for their valorous acts of courage in the face of great danger and with disregard to their own safety, while acting on behalf of our fellow citizens and Federation Members.
By A Unanimous Vote Of A Grateful Civic Federation,
Jim Pebley, President.
