Minutes of the meeting of November 9, 2004

John T. Hazel Auditorium, Arlington Hospital


President Smaldore called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

1. Pledge of Allegiance. The formal meeting began with recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

2. Approval of Agenda. The agenda was approved.

3. Treasurer's Report. Balances: Checking $958.48, Savings $4,375.92, Combined $5,334.40, Reserved for 9-11 Scholarship Fund $864.97, Net Available $4,469.43, Separate US Postal Bulk Mail Account $224.52. Dues have been paid by 59 out of 85 member organizations.

4. ACFF Thank You to Sandra Ogilvie for all of her help and AV support for our meetings.

5. Monique Conrad (BET reporter and MC for Neighborhood Day Parade) presented calendars from 5th grade Drew Middle School students of Arlington Historical Buildings. They can be found at Arlington Commuter Stores, Arlington Schools, and www.arlington.k12.va.us/school/drew.

6. Committee Reports:

  • Parks and Recreation - Boat House Sites to be visited by the committee.

  • Transportation - I-66 comments can be made on-line.

  • Environmental - Moving meetings to the 3rd Wednesday.

  • Revenues and Expenditures - Training for the County Budget. If there is interest, they will do a county budget explanation in January.

  • Planning and Zoning - Focusing on lot coverage. Read a letter that is being written to the County Board.

  • Public Services - Establishing temporary phone tree for civic associations and setting up a reverse 911 for Civic Association President notification.

7. WETA's sneak preview of Arlington Heroes, History, and Hamburgers by Pat Williamson.

8. ACCF Legislative Package passed 23 yes to 9 no. Motion passed to move Zoning ordinance from legislative package and refer to the planning and zoning committee.

9. Amendment (In state tuition for all students, regardless of origin or home location) did not pass, 16 yes, 18 no.

10. Resolution to allow VA Baseball Authority to sunset passed and was added to the legislative package.

11. Resolution to allocate Virginia's Electoral Votes by 2008 did not pass. 14 yes, 16 no.

12. Resolution regarding ACPD Officers memorial was proposed, seconded and referred to the Public Services Committee.

13. Announcements about the next ACCF ExCom meeting and the ACCF presentation of a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Veterans' Day.

14. Meeting Adjourned.
