Minutes of the meeting of June 7, 2005
John T. Hazel Auditorium, Arlington Hospital
President Smaldore called the meeting to order at 7:29 pm.
1. Pledge of Allegiance led by Patrick Hope of the Buckingham Civic Association.
2. Approval of Agenda. The agenda was approved.
3. Approval of Minutes. The minutes from May 3rd were approved.
4. Treasurer's Report. Balances: Checking $1,463.57, Savings $1,878.86, Combined $3,342.43, Reserved for 9-11 Scholarship Fund $864.97, Net Available $2,477.46, Separate US Postal Bulk Mail Account $172.77. Dues have been paid by 83 out of 86 member organizations.
Dues not paid by: Arlingtonians for a Better County, ENDependence Center of Northern Virginia, and Madison Manor Citizens Association.
5. 7:34 Election of CivFed Officers for 2005-2006.

� Treasurer - France Finta
� Executive Committee - Beth Offenbach, Stan Karsten, Larry Meyer, Frank Emerson, and Eileen Williams.
6. 7:38 Patrick Hope of the Buckingham Civic Association addressed the federation and told of the success of his CA's walking tour. He was then presented with the "Arlington Hero Award."
7. Larry Meyer gave a lot coverage report as part of the planning and zoning committee. At a recent symposium, there were competing proposals. The Arlington planning commission has requested to defer this issue to their Nov. 7th meeting and the Nov. 15th County Board meeting.
8. 7:56 Committee Reports
� Awards Committee - Jim Pebley gave the status of the 9-11 fund.
� Teachers' Scholarship Committee - Frances Finta explained how the scholarship started and its requirements.
� Executive Committee - Burt Bostwick told of the results of the 1st Annual Walk Arlington Challenge. He presented Jon Antonelli with an award for the Columbia Heights Civic Association as the organization with the most participants.
� Schools Committee - Beth Wolffe honored Terri Prell and Roger Meyer for their service and looks forward to taking on this new challenge.
� Public Services Committee - Jackie Snelling announced that on June 16th the film "The Dirty War" will be showing at Thomas Jefferson H.S. and that tomorrow (June 8th) there will be an emergency preparedness exercise (Gallant Fox 3) taking place at the Pentagon.
� Airport Committee - Pete Collard mentioned that they are in negotiations to keep airplanes using Reagan National Airport over the Potomac River.
� Legislative Committee - Nancy Graham is leaving and they are looking for new chairs to carry on the business of the committee.
� Housing Committee - Kathryn Scruggs announced that on June 16th there will be a daytime forum at NRECA on "affordable housing" entitled "10 Great Ideas."
� Environmental Committee - Ben Axelrod recounted some of the committee's activities over the past year.
� Parks and Recreation Committee - Jay Wind reviewed progress over the past year and highlighted the siting of the boathouse as a major issue for the coming year.
� Revenues and Expenditures Committee - Robert Atkins announced that the current chairs are leaving and the Burt Bostwick would be taking over the administration of this committee. Mr. Atkins also announces that he was leaving Arlington due to excessive taxes.
9. 9:01 New Business
� Nancy Graham was honored as an "Honorary Delegate for Life" to the Civic Federation.
10. 9:02 Announcements.
� It was announced that David Applegate of Glebewood Civic Association passed away in May.
� On June 8th there will be a NARF luncheon meeting.
� June 14th there will be a meeting of RAFOM at the Top of the Town. Their guest speaker will be Admiral Stanfield Turner, the former leader of the CIA.
� June 14th is also Election Day and delegates are reminded to vote.
