Dear Fellow Arlingtonians:
On March 13, 1999, the Arlington County Board appointed the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Committee (NTCC). The purpose of the Committee was to develop and implement a program that--furthers the County Board's goal of creating an "urban village" by reducing the impact of vehicular traffic and increasing pedestrian and bicycle safety in Arlington's neighborhoods. Since that time, the NTCC has worked with residents to address traffic problems in several Arlington neighborhoods.
As part of the NTCC process, we planned for a review, after two years, to evaluate how well the NTCC
program is working. The NTCC particularly wants to learn your opinion of:
o The criteria used to determine whether a problem exists and how severe it is;
o The criteria which must be met in order to qualify for a traffic calming measure;
o The funding priorities
o The process
o Budget requirements
o The minimum public support thresholds for various measures within the affected area
Please provide input to the NTCC review by answering four simple questions:
(1) Has your neighborhood been impacted by a NTCC project?
(2) What has been your experience with the NTCC criteria?
(3) What is your opinion of the types of measures being used to address problems?
(4) What recommendations would you make to improve the process?
The NTCC would, of course, appreciate any additional comments. We would also appreciate submission of any comments by April 15th. Feel free to visit our website at: www.co.arlington.va.us/dpw/planning/ntc/guide/toc.htm to view the program.
Please send any comments in writing to:
Thank you for your assistance in evaluating Arlington's traffic calming program.
Sincerely,
W. Stephen Sockwell
Chairman, Neighborhood Traffic Calming Committee
